Apple Computer is formed, April 1, 1976

It may have been April Fools’ Day, but Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne were not joking around when they came together on April 1, 1976, to form Apple Computer Inc. to sell the Apple I personal computer kit.

The kits were hand-built by Wozniak and first shown to the public at the Homebrew Computer Club. They went on sale in July 1976.

Apple would be incorporated on January 3, 1977, but without Wayne, who sold his share of the company back to Jobs and Wozniak for $800.

Although some of its products over the years were not accepted by consumers – the Apple III, for example – the company’s longer-term success is nothing to laugh at. ++

It is important to consider the humble beginnings of any large company. Next time you find yourself waiting in line to buy an Apple iPhone consider the Apple 1, pictured above.

Apple computer began as a hardware company. Now is the time to get back to those roots and build a new computer with extraordinary benchmark results! Please, no more 3 year waits for an iMac internal upgrade!

New Imac Hard Drive Choices

While reviewing options for a new 2018 iMac (last upgraded in 2017) it was quickly clear that an external Hard drive would be necessary to avoid excessive additional costs and issues with Fusion drives and Mac OS High Sierra file management system. 2018 iMacs come with a 1TB Fusion Hard Drive or you have the option of upgrading to 256GB-1TB Solid State Drive.  One important caveat, all of the iMacs on the shelf today were realized in 2017.  An update is rumored to occur for the iMac in Sept/October 2018 which may be worth the wait. Since publication of this article 2018 came and went without an update to the iMac instead Apple focused on the watch, iMac Mini and Air Laptop hardware upgrades. Is Apple now only a consumer company with forward thinking on new Apple TV +content, Apple Watch for the mass affluent fitness demo, iPhone for everyone, and improvements to hardware at a premium in the Air and mini lines?

One option is order a new 2018 iMac with a 256GB SSD drive for your applications and utilize an external hard drive for file management. I just purchased the Silicon Power external HD 1TB portable hard drive, featured in this article.

Now my only question is when to purchase a new iMac, not upgraded since 2017, with rumors of a re design/upgrade coming any day now. So far this year Apple’s focus on the mini (compact desktop system), Air Laptop, Apple Watch and new Apple TV + features and content an upgrade on iMac was placed on the back burner. Wait, just an Apple second, see the Video below about the Apple announcements this month and…(Surprise, Surprise)! there is an internal hardware improvement to the iMac line!  Amazing! Shazam!

My unfortunate purchase timing with Apple products is legend.  Just ask me about my purchase of the 7200 Power mac right before the launch of the iMac product line.

Do creatives love the MAC OS operating system so much we are willing to overlook the lack of innovation in the higher end line of computer products?  This is the first year I have started looking in the PC market for higher horsepower for a lower price since I have began my Media business 7 years ago. Which laptop do Web developers prefer for front end web design in 2020?  Many talk up the virtues and hardware advantages of Dell XPS 15 9570 laptops.

What do you think of the Dell XPS 9570 15″ laptops vs. Macbook Pro 15″ laptops. For so many years creatives have looked to the Apple line of products for fields in the design business. Now some have looked elsewhere due to the slow Apple hardware improvements/compared to PC market over the last few years.

This recommendation comes from my brother who has 20 years experience as a Network administrator at Duke and running a home business repairing computer software/hardware issues and installing wireless networks. It is an understatement to say that Mark is the go to techie for all hardware/software questions in our family and the greater Duke Cell Biology department where he works.
