🐂Love, Love, L❤️VE this photo of @SpeightJoye! Her personality shines through.
.
Joye is a Durham native. Her grandfather Theodore Roosevelt Speight started Speight Auto Services, one of the few original Black Wall Street businesses still operating today in Durham. Her Bull City roots run deep.
.
What’s the first thing Joye wants folks to know about Durham right off the bat?
.
“Just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean that it’s a bad thing. I think Durham is misrepresented a lot. I think that Durham has in the past and probably even still now gets a bad rap for something that may be a minority, a small group of people, will do. They paint the whole city that way. Really, it’s just about understanding. If you understood Durham, you wouldn’t be afraid of it anymore. If you seek to understand if you’ve educated yourself enough about Durham to where you’ve taken the fear out of that situation, & you’ve empowered yourself to live in Durham the way that you want to live.”
.
Now that’s a VERY Durham answer. LOVE it!
