What thoughts have you on John Mayer, the musician-esteemed guitarist, singer, and songwriter John Mayer? Sans the sordid details of TMZ-publicized romantic breakups and Narcissistic public tirades, I make an effort to discuss the musician Mayer. It is challenging to disregard the talent and unique gift for hitting the FM college radio vocal 11 PM -3 AM rotation target with each new track. Now he replaces the irreplaceable Jerry Garcia assuming the lead guitar with the new Dead. Impossible job, yet he does it justice with unexpected humility and evident respect. Jerry will not live on through the Mayer, and this new Dead derivation will survive honorably. Now we understand how other musicians, especially guitarists, deal with the Mayer subject. We include the Mike Cole video, Why Guitar Players HATE John Mayer., for an informed opine on this sensitive subject.
I am not a guitarist. My brother John plays guitar in a good old-man basement band near Hartford, CT. Several musician friends have made their way through the college circuits and homemade burned cd recordings playing electric guitar. I worked with professional guitarists who toured with internationally well-established musicians. I play blues harmonica and practice Alto saxophone each day. You may have noticed we love music and musicians on Durham Cool. John Mayer is a very talented guitarist and accomplished singer. His style of vocal enunciation and jazzy phrasing is instantly recognizable. Perhaps the ire raised by John Mayer among so many professional guitarists is his ease in mastering challenging chord progressions and acrobatic elongated fingerings. Perhaps the animus is due to his natural arrogance and the inner ego addict peacock on display during his request 90’s TMZ interview moments. He often comes across as confident, funny, and capable of handling most questions. It would be a herculean challenge for us (XY chromosome humans) not to go full ID ego with so many adoring female fans front and center during the Mayer career genesis. Another thing is Pride in one’s abilities, and talent is necessary, especially in Rock-n-Roll, to survive. Talent like John Mayer makes him thrive either with Dead and Company or on his own!

October ’22. He just turned 45. One more tour with Dead and Company. A joy he brought to old Deadheads like me – we would never have imagined. I am eternally grateful for how he cared for his role in the Jerry Garcia spot.

Dead & Company – Sugar Magnolia 4K (Boulder, CO 7/14/18)
Dead & Company performed Sugar Magnolia in 4K from their show at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado, on July 14, 2018.
Dead & Company was formed in 2015 when the Grateful Deadâs Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, and Bob Weir joined forces with artist and musician John Mayer, Allman Brothersâ bassist Oteil Burbridge, and Fare Thee Well and RatDog keyboardist Jeff Chimenti. The result was one of the most successful touring bands of the decade. The inaugural tour kicked off in the fall of 2015 with two sold-out shows at the legendary Madison Square Garden in New York City. It ended with two sold-out performances at the âFabulousâ Forum in Inglewood, California. Since then, the band has completed five tours, playing to more than 1.5 million fans, and has become a record-breaking stadium act. Dead & Company has headlined iconic stadiums across the country, including Folsom Field, Autzen Stadium, Citi Field, Fenway Park, and Dodger Stadium. Additionally, the band broke Wrigley Fieldâs all-time concert attendance record in 2017. Dead & Companyâs 2018 Summer Tour ranked in the top 25 of the Top 100 Worldwide Tours, and for the past two years, their Summer Tours ranked in the top 15 of the Top Global Concert Tours.
Truly a treat to catch Oteil Burbridge, brother, and bandmate to the much-loved, easy-to-remember, hard-to-forget Kofi Burbridge.

I remember back in freshman year of high school my art teacher would always play this album while we worked on our art projects. It was so calming and peaceful and this music really helped to add euphoria to my anxiety-filled day of school. Now I’m in college, but I still look back on this time and smile while listening to this album. đ

When Johnâs describing the songs being bigger than him, I felt that. Iâve seen him three times in concert and have followed his career since I was pubescent. Each and every album deeply represents a time in my life. Heâs a time capsule I can revisit whenever I want. I can always find new meaning in the songs as I grow as well. Timeless. I have so much respect for him as a musician and a man. Great interview!

OnePlus Buds Pro Headphone
This wireless Bluetooth model from OnePlus delivers very good sound quality and active noise reduction, combining elements of in-ear and earbud earphones. These earphones have an isolating design and an ambient sound monitoring feature; they will provide some muffling and electronic canceling of external noises and reduce the amount of sound that escapes from the earpieces. As such, they are best for those who want highly portable earphones that reduce the noise they hear from their surroundings or donât want the sound from the earpieces to disturb others.

John Mayer, ‘Recovered Ego Addict’ | msnbc
Steely Dan – Gaslighting Abbie
We include this track and perhaps a few additional ones in case you need an antidote (mind cleanse) after reading and listening to this article about reformed EGO addict John Mayer. While writing and researching the subject of John Mayer, I have a newfound respect for the man, his music, and this most recent collaboration with Dead and Company. I especially enjoy the obvious onstage/offstage respect John has for Bob Weir and the camaraderie with keyboardist Jeff Chimenti and bassist Oteil Burbridge. It is evident that the Mayer has matured well and, as the Dead Heads have noticed, carried on the legacy of Jerry with grace and humility. One thing any objective musician will acknowledge about John Mayer is his commitment to the creative process and his outstanding lead guitar proficiency. He enrolled in Berklee in 1997 and completed two semesters before moving to Atlanta, Ga. How many of us could get accepted at the prestigious Berklee School of Music, in Boston?
Through the early 2000s, he performed, toured, and recorded prolifically, winning acclaim for such hits as âYour Body Is a Wonderland,â which won a 2003 Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocalist, and âDaughters,â which won a 2005 Grammy for Song of the Year. Two more songs won Grammys in 2006. He also collaborated with blues and jazz artists such as Buddy Guy and Herbie Hancock, gaining recognition for his guitar work.
