We enjoy Jon Bernthal’s complete emotional immersion acting in Marvel comic series The Punisher role and numerous film roles. Yesterday we relished getting to know the actor, human being, Jon Bernthal on Hot Ones. Many are aware of this excellent YouTube show not only for its Herculean human challenge of the spice gauntlet but for the interview questions. The host of Hot Ones, Sean Evans, comes prepared with excellent questions (see crack background research). The Hot One’s show with Bernthal is illuminating his C.V., experience, work ethic, and humanity. Watch his genuine compassion and concern for host Sean Evans when the host suffers a very brief setback upon consuming the first wing (lowest spice level).
Jon Bernthal is qualified to teach us about behavior steps towards nontoxic humanity, compassion, empathy.

John’s a smart guy and the story goes… When Dunham completed her script for Sharp Stick, she sent it out to her dream cast. Bernthal had been her first choice to play her philandering husband, a hunky stay-at-home L.A. dad whose streetwear company never quite succeeded. He was an easy sell: They had previously met in London and hit it off. “We spent the entire night in her bathroom, smoking cigarettes and talking about everything,” says Bernthal. “I would follow her anywhere.”

I saw Jon posted this on his Instagram, and it was interesting to see how triggered people were in the comments section, outraged that an abuser was being given a platform. I highly doubt these people watched the interview. As a woman who experienced physical and emotional abuse at a man’s hands, I found this conversation healing, and I’m incredibly grateful you shared this. This is masculinity; THIS is how we heal masculinity. When men are given safe spaces to be radically authentic, raw, and vulnerable, they heal, and we all heal. I don’t wish for the demise of the man who abused me; I wish for his redemption; I wish for him to heal so that he can be a better man and treat women with the love and respect they deserve. I can’t wait to see more open and raw conversations like these.

This new short story, Featherweight, read by author Sterling Holywhitemountain is clearly not a poem, rather it is damn good original prose. I listened to this featured short fiction piece on Newyorker.com and was overtly impressed with this writer’s gift. Any studious reader knows a unique voice when they hear it. This read by author piece features such a resonant new voice, not like another, that it deserves your full attention. Quiet the distractions, lock the door, and commit to active listening for the complete 29:28.
