Do you find yourself watching Mr. Robot on YouTube a-chronologically? This is ok and not an indicator of anything abnormal, but rather a strong indication of your discerning palette. Excellent episodic narratives transcend time/place/age and other limiting factors. Mr. Robot is so damn good based largely on the primary characters’ believable storyline and Rami Malek’s tour de force performance in this central role. In Elliot Alderson’s character, Rami achieves greatness through thoughtful/General anxiety disorder control stillness. Christian Slater, as the poltergeist inner voice of Mr. Robot, plays to his skillset-alpha sarcastic, borderline caustic. Carly Chaikin, as Elliot’s sister, Darlene, is the perfect Holden Caufield hacker cohort. Thankfully Mr. Robot is a “show not tell” style narrative, so sibling relationships and other relationships are explored over time. No placation to the torpid mind but rather an appreciation for our ability to deduct and deduce. The beautiful aspect of the writing, production, and storytelling of Mr. Robot is the hyper-aware, overtly intelligent audience can still be surprised by the nuances, twists, and turns within the episodes, series, and seasons.

” Socially inept Elliot Alderson works at cyber security company Allsafe. At night, he hacks social media, personal information, and bank records, including those of his co-workers, therapist, and drug dealer. Elliot stops a DDoS attack against Allsafe’s biggest client, E Corp. He identifies a file labeled fsociety00.dat and a text file asking him not to destroy malware he finds hidden on E Corp’s server. Mr. Robot, the mysterious leader of the hacker group fsociety, contacts Elliot on the subway. Fsociety invites Elliot to join them in starting a digital revolution; they plan to delete all debt records held by E Corp. He is intrigued and eventually agrees. As his first collaborative act with fsociety, Elliot provides the FBI with an encrypted file falsely implicating Terry Colby, E Corp’s chief technology officer (CTO), as the orchestrator of the attack.
