The evolution of Joni Mitchells’s creative output from Ladies of the Canyon to Hissing of Summer Lawns demonstrates her influences and proclivities. What is oft missed by critics and fans alike is Joni’s transition was not a straight line from Folk to Jazz, rather she sampled along the journey what she observed and listened to. I have included a musical analysis of “Hissing of Summer lawns” title track by a music theory professor, for those who want to go for the deep dive. The tone of the video is light and illuminating rather than pedantic and academic.

Here is a chronological album list for those interested in a timeline.
