This 5-course certificate, developed by Google, includes an innovative curriculum designed to prepare you for an entry-level role in IT support. A job in IT can mean in-person or remote help desk work in a small business or at a global company like Google. The program is part of Grow with Google, a Google initiative to help create economic opportunities for all Americans. Learn more.

Upon completion of the certificate, you can share your information with top employers like Cognizant, GE Digital, Hulu, Infosys, Intel, KForce, MCPc, PNC Bank, RICOH USA, Sprint, TEKSystems, Veterans United Home Loans, Walmart and their subsidiaries, and of course, Google. You can also earn a CompTIA and Google dual credential when you complete the Google certificate and pass the CompTIA A+ certification exams.

Through a mix of video lectures, quizzes, and hands-on labs and widgets, the program will introduce you to troubleshooting, customer service, networking, operating systems, system administration, and security. You’ll hear from Googlers with unique backgrounds whose own foundation in IT support served as a jumping-off point for their careers. By dedicating ~5 hours a week, you can complete it in under six months.

The Google IT Support Professional Certificate program recently secured a credit recommendation from the American Council on Education (ACE) ACE CREDIT®, which is the industry standard for translating workplace learning to college credit. Learners can earn a recommendation of 12 college credits for completing the program–the equivalent of four college courses at the associate degree level. This aims to help open up additional pathways to learners who are interested in higher education and prepare them for entry-level jobs.

Troubleshooting and Debugging Techniques

In this course, we’ll give you the tools to quickly identify and solve real-world problems that you might come across in your IT role. We’ll look at a bunch of different strategies and approaches for tackling the most common pitfalls of your code and IT infrastructure. You’ll learn strategies for approaching almost any technical problem and then see how those apply to solving different real-world scenarios.

We picked examples that include general system issues, issues with software that someone else wrote, and issues with programs that we wrote. We’ll talk about problems that can affect any operating system, and we’ll also look at challenges specific to certain platforms and scripting languages.

We strongly recommend that you’ve taken the prior courses in this program, or already have knowledge of Python and Linux so that you can follow along with our troubleshooting examples.
