True Coltrane fans are familiar with the beautifully sublime, Naima, from the Giant Steps album. Difficult to sum up how or why this track is so resonant for me and many others. The song was a tribute to his wife. Something about the simple melody and spare arrangement. This morning Naima was the soundtrack for two squirrels chasing each other around my yard. Nothing brings you into the present moment faster than watching two squirrels chasing each other around a large circumference Oak Tree and over the fence line, around the yard. Bursts of playful energy and then Flushed tail foraging. Life is so difficult, so many distractions, things to worry and fret over, and then Naima and the squirrels in my yard.
