A Great Song for sentimental Reasons

A great song comes round at the right moments for good reason. “That’s How I Got to Memphis” was first heard by me on the show, Newsroom and more recently while exploring the YouTube trove for Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller duets. Anyone who has ears will tell you that Buddy Miller is a musician’s musician (singer, interpreter of the Americana Songbook, songwriter, guitar maestro) who adds considerable value anytime on stage or in the studio. That’s how I got to Memphis, written by Tom T. Hall, which is a signature cover by Buddy Miller whenever he performs solo.

The performance, included below, by actor Jeff Daniels in the lead character role of a newscaster, Will happens during the season finale, What Kind of Day Has It Been, where a sudden death leads Will and Mac to ponder the milestones that transformed the newsroom and to look ahead towards ACN’s uncertain future. Maggie lands a field-producer interview in Washington; Neal’s site is shut down for repairs.
